29 September 21 - Qualified RPII Operators

Qualified RPII Operators

We're pleased to share that today we renewed our RPII operators training course and all core staff passed the exam, extending our qualification for another 3 years.

As far as we know, we're the only company in the Bexley Borough that have this qualification. It's not a requirement to operate and by no means mandatory, but as the only qualification in our industry we believe it's important to voluntarily participate to be industry leaders and be recognised as safe operators.

This isn't a new certification for us, we have been participating since the course became available and was one of the very first companies in the country to enroll. For us, this was a renewal; We still had to complete the entire course as if it was the first time, but we decided to take the core members of our staff so that we could all benefit from this experience. It isn't a free course, but regardless of the cost we believe that it shows a very real commitment to our staff as well as our customers that safety really is our top priority.

Below are our qualification ID's that can be checked independantly on the RPII website:

Membership number for Spencer Elliott: OA0088
Membership number for Jack Page: OA1006
Membership number for Greg Elliott: OA1005

If you go to the "find an inspector" tab, here: Inflatable Annual - Register of Play Inspectors International It will allow you to enter the ID and check the validity of this on their website.

The RPII are the Register of Play Inspectors International. The Register of Play Inspectors International (RPII) is the official UK body for examining, accrediting and certificating inflatable, indoor and outdoor play inspectors. This is the same group that checks playgrounds, parks and other play equipments - Most play parks come under their scope and are the body that also covers inflatables.

The course is based purely around safety, how to operate safely, recognise risks and mitigate them, when it is safe to use an inflatable, what measures are required and what rules are in place. Some things are obvious, like setting up an inflatable on a slope, but it's on this course that you learn the exact gradient permitted, they dive into the details and exact measurements of everything from distance from a hard object, safety checks, how to install an inflatable, weights and anchorage, wind speeds, user counts and capacity, matting requirements, impact attentuation and all of the precise details that are and are not allowed.

It's easy for a "bouncy castle man" to have a self belief that they know how to operate safely just because they have been doing it for years or even decades, but the course reminds us of how we are supposed to be operating and what really is and isn't allowed. It ensures we know exactly what to do when staffing inflatables too, how to recognise risks, what we are allowed to use judgement on (glasses for example are not actually allowed, but we are allowed to use discretion based on the risk and the user).

Regardless of how long someone has been operating for, there's always something that can be learned from this course and it is our hope that being qualified and recognised as experts by the RPII will provide our customers the confidence they need to choose us to provide their inflatables for events, schools, parties and other requirements.
