03 February 20 - Bouncy Castle Safety PAT

Bouncy Castle Leads & Safety

We take safety extremely seriously. It comes above profit and everything else. We often write posts here explaining about wind speed, generators, PIPA tags and annual inspections, site inspections, risk assesments etc.

It doesn't stop there though, we also ensure the very highest standards in electrical safety. We have over 3,500 metres of cable; Which is actually over 2 miles of cable (enough cable laid out to reach from where we live to Dartford!). It's not just cables though, but the fans, adapapters, sockets, transformers, RCD's, power distribution boards and all manor of electrical equipment. All of this equipment needs to be inspected by a professional and a portable appliance test (PAT) be performed.

We recently went through that exact exercise. Sadly we forgot to take many pictures, but there is a small sample of what the inspector went through below.

Many companies do not bother with PAT inspections as it's very hard to prove which cable is which. However, we feel it's extremely important to ensure that all of our equipment is fit for purpose and can rest easy knowing that our equipment won't be the reason for an accident.

We do not wait for inspections either to tell us that the cables are not fit for purpose. Through the year we pile up all the leads we know aren't good enough. We perform a visual inspection and run the cable through our hands checking for snags or breaks on each and every hire (literally miles of cable passes through our hands each month). If we detect any faults, that equipment isput to one side and then back at base it's put in a big container that isn't allowed to be touched. Any slight defect and it goes into the big container, then once a year when we have our inspections we let the inspector make the decsion and if required, the repair. If it's un-repairable it's then disposed of by the electrician.

This year we lost approx. 150 metres of cable, a very small price to pay for keeping our customers safe. There's a picture below of the cables we disposed of. Not once will we ever take a risk and try to extend the life of a product beyond what is deemed safe by a qualified professional.

We believe that as a bouncy castle hire company, it is important to hold the higest standards in safety. If you would like to book us to help make your day special, we would love to hear from you!
