Pocket Garden in Dartford
We recently hired a bouncy castle to a family in Dartford. They hired our front slide combo bouncy castle in a party theme for the occassion and they told us it was in a pocket garden. We had to be double sure what they meant, we had never heard of the concept before, but essentially it's a private communal garden that's closer to a park in some ways.
When we hire inflatables on public communal land we need permission from the council, but it's slightly different on private property and this location was absolutely fine to set-up.
We're pretty much in-love with this concept of a pocket garden. In our youth we was allowed to play out on the street without too much fear from ourselves or our parents. We would play with the neighbour kids all day long, and as soon as it started to get dark we would try to stay as far away from the window where our mums could call us as we was allowed, knowing that at any moment they would be calling out to us to come in.
Sadly, these days we can't really allow our children to do that (despite living on the same street we used to when we was younger). Times have changed. There's far more traffic on the road and a lot more fear about what might happen to our children. They can't play outside un-supervised without a feeeling of a real danger being present and it's a huge shame.
This pocket garden is different. The houses all have their own gardens and they back onto the largen park-type area. You can see the children easily and it allows all the neighbour kids to play with eachother without the fear of them crossing the street on their own or some other danger from the public. It's such a great idea and quite honestly we're jealous, we want one for our children!
As soon as the inflatable was set-up fo rthe little boy's birthday, all of his neighbour friends raced out to play with him and join in the fun. This is pretty much now a "must-have" on our next home!
